Apples Never Fall
by Moriarty, Liane; Lee, Caroline (NRT)

"A novel that looks at marriage, sibling rivalry, and the lies we tell others and ourselves"-

Liane Moriarty is the author of the #1 New York Times bestsellers Big Little Lies, The Husband's Secret, and Truly Madly Guilty; the New York Times bestsellers Nine Perfect Strangers, What Alice Forgot, and The Last Anniversary; The Hypnotist's Love Story; and Three Wishes. She lives in Sydney, Australia, with her husband and two children.

The Delaneys are a tennis family. Stan and Joy, who were on the circuit themselves, owned a tennis school and raised their children to be stars. None made it to the pro level, however, despite their parents' urging. Now retired, Joy and Stan fill their days with household activities until one night a young woman, Savannah, appears at their door. Joy, ever sympathetic, takes Savannah in, letting her quickly become part of the family. The children, however, are suspicious and a little jealous of Savannah's easy relationship with their mother. All changes when Joy suddenly disappears. As the police search for Joy and begin to suspect that she has been killed, Stan becomes the number one suspect. Of course, nothing is as it appears in Moriarty's latest. There are a lots of characters, and most of them are related. Lee, who has a strong Australian accent, makes some distinctions among characters' accents, but there's quite a bit of similarity. Context clues, however, make it easy for listeners to tell them apart. The plot surprises and Lee's entertaining narration are sure to satisfy Moriarty's many fans. Copyright 2021 Booklist Reviews.
