49th Mystic
by Dekker, Ted

When Rachelle Matthews undergoes a procedure to restore her sight, she begins to dream of another world and learns that she is the one destined to find five seals in both worlds in order to bring them peace, but if she fails, both will fall into darkness.

Ted Dekker is the award-winning and New York Times bestselling author of more than forty novels, with over 10 million copies sold worldwide. He was born in the jungles of Indonesia to missionary parents, and his upbringing as a stranger in a fascinating and sometimes frightening culture fueled his imagination. Dekker's passion is simple-to explore truth through mind-bending stories that invite readers to see the world through a different lens. His fiction has been honored with numerous awards, including two Christy Awards, two Inspy Awards, an RT Reviewers' Choice Award, and an ECPA Gold Medallion. In 2013, NPR readers nationwide put him in the Top 50 Thriller Authors of All Time. Dekker lives in Nashville, Tennessee, with his wife, Lee Ann.

Nearly a decade after he published the final book in the acclaimed Circle series, Dekker launches a new, two-volume series, Beyond the Circle. In Utah, in a self-contained community known as Eden, a girl who's been blind since shortly after birth undergoes a risky procedure to get her sight back. But something happens, something so unbelievable that no one could have expected it. The girl, Rachelle, starts to have extremely vivid dreams of another place, and soon she learns the truth about herself. She is chosen. She alone can save this world and the world she dreams about. But she has to risk her own death to do it. This first volume leaves a lot hanging at the end, but that won't bother most readers, who know they can trust Dekker to wrap things up in an appropriately spectacular way. A welcome return to the world of the Circle and a fine novel in its own right. Copyright 2018 Booklist Reviews.
